President Trump Accuses Iran of AI-Generated Disinformation Campaign

U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack against Iran on Sunday, accusing the nation of orchestrating an artificial intelligence-driven disinformation campaign regarding ongoing military conflicts while criticizing American media outlets for reporting unverified claims.

In a lengthy statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump characterized Iran as “a Master of Media Manipulation and Public Relations” while dismissing their military capabilities as “ineffective and weak.” The president claimed Iran has now added artificial intelligence to its arsenal of disinformation tools.

“Now, A.I. has become another Disinformation weapon that Iran uses, quite well, considering they are being annihilated by the day,” Trump stated in his post, suggesting Tehran is attempting to project strength while suffering significant military losses.

Trump specifically referenced images circulating online that purportedly show Iranian “Kamikaze Boats” attacking vessels at sea. He dismissed these visuals as fabricated, stating the boats “don’t exist” and represent attempts by Iran to portray its military as “tough” despite being “already defeated.”

The president took particular issue with media reports claiming damage to American military assets. He disputed an article in The Wall Street Journal that reported several U.S. refueling aircraft had been struck and damaged. According to Trump, all but one of these planes remain in service, with the remaining aircraft expected to return to operation soon.

Trump also vehemently denied reports that the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), one of America’s largest aircraft carriers, had been attacked or damaged. “Iran, working in close coordination with the Fake News Media, shows our great USS Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier burning uncontrollably in the Ocean. Not only was it not burning, it was not even shot at — Iran knows better than to do that!” he wrote.

In a controversial statement that has raised concerns among press freedom advocates, Trump suggested that media organizations reporting these claims should face “Charges for TREASON for the dissemination of false information.” He characterized such reporting as “FAKE” and “knowingly” false.

The president’s comments reflect increasing tensions between his administration and certain media outlets as military operations continue in the region. Trump claimed Iran’s only victories are those “created through AI and distributed by Corrupt Media Outlets,” while insisting that “Iran is being decimated” militarily.

Trump’s rhetoric escalated further when he praised Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr for reportedly “looking at the licenses of some of these Corrupt and Highly Unpatriotic ‘News’ Organizations.” The president argued that broadcasters receive “Billions of Dollars of FREE American Airwaves” but use them to “perpetuate LIES.”

Media experts note that Trump’s claims about FCC license reviews could raise significant First Amendment concerns, as government scrutiny of news organizations based on content has historically faced strong legal challenges.

The dispute highlights the increasingly complex information landscape surrounding international conflicts, where artificial intelligence and digital manipulation can blur the lines between factual reporting and propaganda. Intelligence officials have previously warned about the potential for AI-generated content to spread misinformation during geopolitical crises.

Neither Iranian officials nor the media organizations referenced by the president have formally responded to Trump’s accusations. Military analysts continue to monitor the situation in the region as tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain elevated.
