Celebrities Face Significant Health Challenges in 2025

Chronic and fatal diseases do not choose favorites, as several high-profile celebrities confronted serious health scares in 2025. From unexpected diagnoses to ongoing battles with rare conditions, these medical challenges have impacted careers and personal lives while bringing public attention to important health issues.

Kim Kardashian, the 45-year-old reality television star and entrepreneur, revealed a surprising brain aneurysm diagnosis during a November episode of “The Kardashians.” The condition was discovered during a brain scan with psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Amen of Amen Clinics, who identified what he described as “holes” in her brain indicating low activity.

“The front part of your brain is less active than it should be. With your frontal lobes as they work now, it would be harder to manage stress,” Dr. Amen explained during the episode. The timing was particularly challenging for Kardashian, who was preparing for the California bar exam while managing her various business ventures and public responsibilities.

“Full House” star Dave Coulier faced the devastating return of cancer this year, just months after declaring himself cancer-free. The 66-year-old comedian was initially diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2024 and had completed six months of chemotherapy, announcing his recovery in March.

However, in October, Coulier revealed a second, unrelated diagnosis of HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer. “To go through chemotherapy and feel that relief of ‘Whoa, it’s gone,’ and then to get a test that says, ‘Well, now you’ve got another kind of cancer’… it’s a shock to the system,” Coulier shared on “Today.”

Medical experts confirmed his early-stage P16 carcinoma was likely linked to long-term HPV infection. “They said it could stem from having an HPV virus up to 30 years ago,” Coulier explained. “A lot of people carry the HPV virus, but they said mine activated and turned into a carcinoma.” Despite the setback, doctors have given the actor a 90% curability rate.

Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane has been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, throughout 2025. Dane announced his diagnosis to People magazine in April, expressing gratitude for his “loving family” and his ability to return to the set of HBO’s “Euphoria” despite his condition.

The actor’s battle with the progressive neurodegenerative disease has been challenging. During an interview with “Good Morning America” host Diane Sawyer, Dane revealed he now only has function in one arm. Despite this, he maintains hope: “I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he said. “And whether it is or it isn’t, I’m gonna carry that idea with me.”

The severity of Dane’s condition became apparent when he was hospitalized during the night of the Emmy Awards in September after an ALS-related fall resulted in head injuries requiring stitches. His ex-wife and caretaker, actress Rebecca Gayheart, recently revealed in an essay published in The Cut that Dane now requires “24/7 nurses” and round-the-clock care.

Legendary musician Billy Joel, 76, was diagnosed with a rare brain condition in May that forced him to cancel scheduled performances. The five-time Grammy winner announced he has normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition where cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside or around the brain.

“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance,” stated an announcement on Joel’s website. His medical team recommended physical therapy and advised against performing during his recovery period.

In July, Joel appeared on Bill Maher’s podcast “Club Random with Bill Maher,” offering an update on his condition. “I feel fine,” he said. “My balance sucks. It’s like being on a boat… It used to be called water on the brain. Now it’s called hydrocephalus — normal pressure hydrocephalus.” The iconic singer-songwriter attempted to downplay concerns, adding, “They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I’m feeling.”

In August, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay revealed he had undergone treatment for basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. The 58-year-old culinary star shared photos on Instagram post-procedure, showing a large bandage beneath his ear and a row of stitches.

Ramsay used the opportunity to raise awareness about sun protection, cautioning his followers, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend.” He added with characteristic humor, “I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund…”

These high-profile health battles highlight the universality of medical challenges, regardless of fame or fortune, while bringing much-needed attention to conditions ranging from cancer to neurological disorders. They also demonstrate the importance of regular health screenings, early detection, and proper medical care.
