Tucker Carlson’s Detention Claims in Israel Exposed as Fabrication

Media personality Tucker Carlson has come under fire after falsely claiming he was detained at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport on February 18, 2026. An investigation by multiple news organizations revealed that Carlson’s allegations were fabricated, adding to a growing list of misleading statements he has made about Israel and Jewish communities.

According to flight records and statements from airport officials, Carlson and business partner Neil Patel arrived on a private plane but never actually left the terminal. They reportedly posed for a photo, which Carlson posted on social media with the caption “Greetings from Israel,” before conducting an interview with U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee inside the airport building.

When questioned about his brief visit, Carlson told Britain’s Daily Mail that he and his staff “were detained” following the interview. “Men who identified themselves as airport security took our passports, hauled our executive producer into a side room and then demanded to know what we spoke to Ambassador Huckabee about,” Carlson claimed.

This account was swiftly contradicted by Israeli officials and the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. Airport authorities confirmed that Carlson was never detained, and the room his producer allegedly was taken to was actually a VIP lounge. The Embassy stated that Carlson’s group “received the same passport control questions that countless visitors to Israel, including Ambassador Huckabee and other diplomats, receive as part of normal entry and exit procedures.”

The incident appears to have been precipitated by an earlier on-air criticism of Ambassador Huckabee, in which Carlson accused him of failing to protect Christians in Israel. Huckabee had responded to these allegations on social media, challenging Carlson: “Instead of talking ABOUT me, why don’t you come talk TO me?”

This latest controversy follows several other instances where Carlson has made contentious claims about Israel and Jewish communities. Earlier in February, he broadcast an interview with Anglican Archbishop Hosam Naoum that researchers have criticized for containing numerous factual inaccuracies about the treatment of Christians in Israel.

Dr. David Orenstein, who analyzed the broadcast, noted that “Tucker Carlson and his guest served up a hefty dose of inaccuracies and misrepresentations.” Among them was Carlson’s claim that Israel bombed Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza in 2023, when investigations determined it was actually a misfired rocket launched by Islamic Jihad.

Carlson has also repeatedly suggested that Jewish influence dominates American politics, telling The American Conservative in December 2025 that persuading Americans to fear radical Islam is “an op” orchestrated by Israel, and referring to American Jewish Zionists as Israel’s “informal employees in the United States.”

These statements come against a backdrop of rising antisemitism in the United States. FBI data from 2025 indicates that American Jews are the largest target of religiously motivated hate crimes and the second most targeted group overall, after Black Americans.

Media critics have expressed concern about Carlson’s pattern of hosting extremist figures on his platform. In 2025, he featured neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes and revisionist historian Daryl Cooper, who has questioned established facts about World War II and the Holocaust.

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, commented: “When media personalities with large audiences spread demonstrably false information about Israel or Jewish communities, it contributes to a climate where antisemitism can flourish. Facts matter, especially in such sensitive contexts.”

As Carlson’s claims about his detention in Israel continue to circulate online despite being debunked, media literacy experts emphasize the importance of consulting multiple reliable sources when evaluating contentious news stories.

“This is a classic example of why critical media consumption is so important,” said Dr. Emily Rothman, professor of media studies at Northwestern University. “Initial claims, especially inflammatory ones, should be verified through independent reporting before being accepted as fact.”
