Tori Spelling Opens Up About Decades of False Plastic Surgery Claims

Actress Tori Spelling revealed this week that she has endured “horrific” accusations about plastic surgery procedures she never underwent, a pattern of tabloid speculation that began when she was just 17 years old.

Speaking on her “MisSpelling” podcast with guest Dr. Terry Dubrow, the 52-year-old former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star detailed how the scrutiny began before the internet era, with tabloid magazines like The Globe publishing false claims about her appearance shortly after she rose to fame.

“They were like, ‘She’s had all this plastic surgery,'” Spelling recalled of a story published when she was a teenager. The publication alleged she had undergone chin and cheek implant procedures, though in reality, she had only had a nose job.

The impact of such early public scrutiny was devastating. “At 17, it crushed my whole soul,” Spelling confessed. “I never unsaw that. I never unheard it. I was like a 17-year-old girl that was like ‘OK, am I pretty? I’m trying to find myself in this world, but I’m on TV.’ I was in high school for real.”

Despite her father, legendary television producer Aaron Spelling, reassuring her that the tabloids would quickly move on to another celebrity, the pattern of speculation about her appearance has persisted throughout her career. In today’s social media landscape, Spelling says the scrutiny has only intensified.

“It’s horrific. I’m 52, I’ll be 53 in May, and I purposefully go the other way because everyone says — every photo I put up, people say, ‘Stop with the filler!’ I’m like, ‘I’m not!'” she explained, expressing frustration at being caught in a no-win situation where she faces criticism regardless of her choices.

The persistent rumors have created a paradoxical situation for the actress. “I guess at this point, I should be like f— it and have my whole face done because they already say I’ve had it done,” she said. “I can’t win, but I don’t know why that keeps me from doing stuff.”

While Spelling typically tries to ignore negative comments, she admitted she sometimes feels compelled to correct misinformation. “I find myself sometimes, though, being like, ‘No! it’s not true! Have I had filler in the past? Yes — I don’t have filler right now. I have Botox,'” she said, explaining her impulse to defend herself against inaccurate assumptions.

During the podcast, Spelling also discussed her actual experiences with cosmetic procedures, including getting breast implants at 19 at an outpatient center in a strip mall after a recommendation from a friend. The unusual setting for the procedure surprised the young actress, who had grown up in Beverly Hills.

“I was 19, so I was like, ‘This isn’t Beverly Hills, what’s happening?'” she recalled. “I was confused. I was best friends with Alicia Silverstone and Carmen Electra, and they were taking care of me [after the surgery].”

Spelling revealed that she has recently undergone another breast procedure, joking that “the third time will be the charm.” She explained that her goal with the most recent surgery was to reduce their size, reflecting that she preferred her natural appearance from her younger days.

“I think my body doesn’t like to take foreign things,” she said, discussing complications she’s experienced. “My whole intention of getting them redone was to go smaller ’cause, like looking back to the ’90s, I was like, ‘I liked my boobs. I wish I had just kept them. They’re really great.'”
