South Korean Embassy Refutes Misleading Thai Media Reports on Military Deployment

South Korean officials have strongly disputed recent reports in Thai media claiming that Seoul is preparing to send troops to Ukraine. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangkok issued a formal statement Wednesday addressing what it characterized as “misleading information” that has been circulating in Thai news outlets.

The controversy emerged after several Thai publications reported that South Korea was positioning itself to deploy military personnel to the ongoing conflict zone in Ukraine. According to embassy officials, these claims have no factual basis and directly contradict South Korea’s established position on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Regional analysts suggest that the misreporting may have stemmed from confusion over South Korea’s recent increases in defense exports to various European countries, which have grown significantly since the start of the Ukraine conflict. While South Korea has expanded arms sales to Poland and other NATO members, these transactions do not include deployment of Korean military personnel.

The Thai Foreign Ministry has not yet issued any formal comment on the Korean embassy’s statement. However, media organizations in Thailand have begun to issue corrections to their earlier reports.
