The Monyake Group has issued a strong rebuttal against what it describes as “false claims” circulating about its operations, while confirming plans to host a major concert featuring controversial artist Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, scheduled for December 2025.

In a statement released Tuesday, the entertainment conglomerate addressed growing speculation and criticism that had emerged in recent weeks regarding the viability of the planned concert and the company’s financial standing.

“We categorically deny the unfounded allegations being spread through various media channels and confirm that preparations for the Ye concert are proceeding as planned,” said Thabo Monyake, CEO of the Monyake Group. “Our contractual agreements with the artist and his management team remain intact, with the event set to take place in December 2025.”

Industry insiders had questioned the feasibility of securing Ye for the event, particularly given the artist’s unpredictable public behavior and controversial statements in recent years that have damaged his commercial relationships with major brands including Adidas and Gap. The artist has faced significant backlash for antisemitic remarks and other provocative statements that have alienated portions of his fan base.

Financial analysts had also raised concerns about the Monyake Group’s ability to underwrite an event of this magnitude, estimated to cost upward of $15 million in production expenses and artist fees. The company’s statement sought to put these doubts to rest.

“Our financial position remains strong, with adequate capitalization to support all planned events through 2026,” the statement continued. “We have secured all necessary funding, venue arrangements, and production partnerships required to deliver a world-class entertainment experience.”

The planned concert will mark Ye’s first major international tour stop in Africa since 2016, positioning it as a significant cultural event for the continent. The Monyake Group, which has established itself as one of Africa’s premier entertainment promoters over the past decade, views the concert as a flagship offering in its expanding portfolio of international events.

Entertainment industry expert Lerato Mokoena from African Entertainment Analysts explains the significance: “Despite Ye’s controversial public image, he maintains tremendous drawing power, particularly in markets where he seldom performs. The Monyake Group is taking a calculated risk that could yield substantial returns if executed properly.”

The company revealed that the event will take place at the newly constructed International Entertainment Arena, a 65,000-capacity venue currently in its final stages of development. Pre-sale tickets are scheduled to become available in March 2025, with general sales beginning in June of that year.

Local business chambers have welcomed the announcement, citing the potential economic impact of such a high-profile event. “Major international concerts of this caliber typically generate between $25-40 million in direct and indirect spending in host cities,” noted regional economic development spokesperson Jacob Dlamini.

The concert comes amid growing competition among African entertainment companies to attract international performers to the continent. Several major promoters, including Live Nation Africa and Big Concerts International, have expanded their presence in key markets across Africa, creating an increasingly competitive landscape for event promoters.

The Monyake Group’s statement also addressed rumors of potential regulatory hurdles, confirming that “all necessary permits and authorizations from relevant government agencies have been secured or are in advanced stages of approval.”

Industry observers remain divided on the commercial wisdom of the venture. Music industry consultant Maria Naidoo expressed some reservations: “While there’s no questioning Ye’s status as a global superstar, his unpredictability poses significant risks for event organizers. The extended lead time to December 2025 could either provide adequate preparation or create vulnerability to changing circumstances.”

The Monyake Group concluded its statement by announcing that additional details about the event, including supporting acts and hospitality packages, will be released in quarterly updates throughout 2024, maintaining public interest during the extended build-up to the concert.
