In a shocking development within the controversial Duggar family, former reality TV star Josh Duggar has come to the defense of his younger brother Joseph, who was recently arrested on charges of child molestation.

Joseph Duggar was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor. According to law enforcement reports, the charges stem from a 2020 family vacation in Destin, Florida, where Joseph allegedly inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl multiple times.
The victim, now 14, detailed the allegations to investigators from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. She claimed Joseph repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap during the trip and requested she sit next to him under a shared blanket, where he allegedly “manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals.” The report further states that Joseph, who was 25 at the time, rubbed his hands on the girl’s thighs on multiple occasions before eventually stopping the alleged abuse and apologizing to her.
In a development that contradicts Josh’s claims of innocence on Joseph’s behalf, authorities report that when confronted by the victim’s father on March 17, 2026, Joseph admitted to the accusations. He reportedly made similar admissions to detectives investigating the case.
Joseph is currently being held in Washington County, Arkansas, awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida, where the alleged crimes occurred.
The Duggar family first gained fame through TLC’s reality show “19 Kids and Counting,” which documented the lives of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their 19 children. The show was canceled in 2015 following revelations that Josh had allegedly molested five girls, including his sisters Jill and Jessa Duggar, in the early 2000s.
