Jada Pinkett Smith Seeks Dismissal of $3 Million Lawsuit Filed by Will Smith’s Former Friend

Jada Pinkett Smith has forcefully rejected allegations made against her by musician Bilaal Salaam, filing a motion to dismiss his $3 million lawsuit which she describes as “false” and “nonsense.”

According to court documents obtained by Page Six, the 54-year-old actress submitted the dismissal request earlier this month, asserting that Salaam’s claims are “false, uncorroborated, and made to generate attention as part of an ongoing public campaign of harassment” targeting her family.

In her filing, Pinkett Smith argues that the lawsuit represents an attempt to punish her for “constitutionally protected speech on a matter of intense public interest about her family.” She also accused Salaam of having a “fixation” on the Smith family and pointed out that she never mentioned him by name during the alleged 2021 incident at the center of the dispute.

The legal battle began when Salaam filed his lawsuit in November 2025. The musician, who described himself as Will Smith’s “best friend for nearly 40 years,” claimed that Pinkett Smith confronted and threatened him during Will Smith’s birthday celebration at the Regency Calabasas Common on September 25, 2021.

In court documents, Salaam alleged that the actress told him he would “end up missing or catch a bullet” if he continued “telling her personal business.” He further claimed that Pinkett Smith launched a “retaliatory campaign” against him after he allegedly refused to assist with crisis management following Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Salaam’s lawsuit contends that as a result of Pinkett Smith’s alleged actions, he suffered damage to his reputation, declining health, financial losses, and emotional trauma due to what he characterized as her “malicious, intentional, and reckless conduct.”

This isn’t the first time Salaam has made serious accusations involving the Smith family. In November 2023, he alleged that he had witnessed Will Smith engaging in inappropriate behavior with actor Duane Martin – a claim that Will’s representatives firmly denied at the time, calling it “completely fabricated” and “unequivocally false.”

The current legal dispute adds to a challenging period for the Smith family, which has faced increased public scrutiny following Will Smith’s controversial Oscar incident and the couple’s public discussions about their unconventional marriage. In recent years, Jada Pinkett Smith has been increasingly open about personal matters on her “Red Table Talk” show and in her memoir, bringing aspects of the family’s private life into the public domain.

Entertainment industry analysts note that celebrity lawsuits of this nature often represent complex intersections of personal relationships, public image management, and financial motivations. High-profile figures like the Smiths frequently contend with legal challenges from former associates or employees seeking financial settlements.
