FBI Agent Reveals Anti-Trump Bias Permeated Mueller Investigation
A former FBI agent assigned to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has come forward with explosive allegations that political bias and misconduct undermined the integrity of the two-year probe into Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. The agent claims the investigation was characterized by a “let’s get him” attitude toward the former president.
The allegations first emerged in December 2020 during an internal FBI interview examining potential misconduct by Brian Auten, a supervisory intelligence analyst who played central roles in both the Russia investigation and the handling of the Hunter Biden laptop case.
In a letter sent Sunday to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley detailed the agent’s account, saying it “confirms long-standing concerns that political bias rotted the decision-making process within the Mueller team.” Grassley emphasized that “the American public deserve answers” and has requested all relevant documents by March 29.
According to the whistleblower, the special counsel’s office maintained an unprofessional atmosphere where anti-Trump political cartoons adorned office walls and team members occasionally consumed alcohol while on duty.
Among the most serious allegations was the claim that Mueller’s team improperly opened an investigation into Tom Barrack, a billionaire friend of Trump and chairman of his 2017 inaugural committee. The agent stated there was “no authority” for this action, especially after the FBI’s Washington Field Office had already declined to investigate Barrack over allegations he was an unregistered agent of the United Arab Emirates.
Despite this, Barrack was arrested, jailed, and prosecuted before ultimately being acquitted by a jury in 2022. He now serves as the U.S. ambassador to Turkey.
The agent also accused the Mueller team of abusing Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to monitor Trump campaign advisers. In one instance, the team allegedly renewed surveillance despite objections from FBI agents who noted the target was cooperating and the surveillance was yielding no useful intelligence.
When the agent attempted to correct errors in a fourth warrant application, FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith allegedly blocked the corrections, saying: “We can’t send this.” Clinesmith later pleaded guilty to falsifying an email used in a FISA application targeting former Trump adviser Carter Page, though he received only probation and eventually retained his law license after a brief suspension.
The whistleblower specifically named several key figures in the alleged misconduct. Prosecutor Zainab Ahmad, described as a protégé of former Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch, reportedly violated security protocols by improperly handling classified documents, including keeping her classified notebook at her residence.
Another prosecutor, Aaron Zelinsky, allegedly fostered “a general atmosphere of bias” in the office, which included displaying anti-Trump “caricatures and cartoons.” Zelinsky, who led aggressive investigations into Trump advisers Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos, and Michael Caputo, resigned from the Department of Justice in January 2025.
The Mueller investigation, which cost taxpayers more than $30 million before concluding in March 2019, ultimately found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. The credibility of the initial investigation was further undermined in May 2023, when Special Counsel John Durham released a report describing the Trump-Russia probe as “seriously flawed” and finding that the FBI had “discounted or willfully ignored material information that did not support the narrative of a collusive relationship between Trump and Russia.”
These new allegations add another chapter to the ongoing controversy surrounding the origins and conduct of what Trump supporters have long characterized as a politically motivated investigation that consumed more than half of his first term as president.

This is a concerning allegation if true. I hope the investigation is thorough and impartial to uncover the facts, regardless of political affiliations.
While I’m always wary of claims of political bias, if this whistleblower account holds up, it’s deeply troubling. The integrity of the Mueller probe must be transparently examined.
Agreed, the public deserves answers on whether protocols were violated. Transparency is key to maintaining trust in our institutions.
A ‘let’s get him’ attitude among investigators is worrying, regardless of the target. Rigorous, unbiased investigations are essential for a healthy democracy.
Absolutely. Allegiances to parties or individuals should never supersede the rule of law and due process.
This is a complex and politically charged issue. I hope the facts can be established objectively, without partisan agendas skewing the truth.
I’ll be curious to see the documents and evidence that emerge from this investigation. Politicization of law enforcement would be a grave concern.
