Family of Renee Nicole Good Denies False Claims About Her Criminal History

Immigration officials opened fire on a woman in Minneapolis last week, triggering days of unrest and forcing her grieving family to defend her reputation against a flood of false information circulating online.

Renee Good, 37, was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on January 7 after reportedly clipping the officer with her SUV. Her death has become a flashpoint in the contentious national debate over immigration enforcement policies.

“You never think the passing of a loved one will be high profile… or a massively divisive, political topic,” wrote Morgan Fletcher, Good’s sister-in-law, in an emotional Facebook post on Monday. “We are grieving. Heavily. And yes, we see everyone’s posts and comments. Some in support but also, the nasty ones ripping apart our beautiful and beloved Renee.”

Fletcher specifically addressed widely circulated claims about Good’s supposed criminal background. “We’ve seen the false claims and the wrong Renee Good’s info being posted (criminal history? She didn’t have one),” she wrote.

An investigation by The Post found no evidence of any criminal record for Good, despite viral social media posts featuring what appears to be an AI-generated mugshot alongside fabricated charges dating back to 2022.

Good’s killing occurred during what the Department of Homeland Security has described as the largest immigration enforcement operation in the region’s history, with approximately 2,000 federal agents deployed to the Twin Cities area. The timing has intensified the community’s response to her death.

Since the shooting, Minneapolis has experienced sustained demonstrations, with police estimating “tens of thousands” of participants in rallies and marches protesting ICE’s presence in the city. The protests have occasionally turned volatile, with authorities reporting that demonstrators have thrown projectiles including bottles, rocks, and snowballs at officers.

Fletcher urged the public to remember the human dimension of the tragedy amid the political firestorm. “No matter where you stand on the issue of ICE or whether or not you think she did or didn’t deserve what happened, please remember she was a human being and she had loved ones… including children who can and will likely see all of these things about their mother… and her wife, whom she loved dearly,” she wrote.

The incident comes at a time of heightened national tension over immigration policy. Under the Biden administration, ICE has faced criticism from both sides of the political spectrum – from immigration advocates who argue enforcement actions are still too harsh, and from conservatives who believe the agency should be conducting more deportations.

Minneapolis, a sanctuary city with policies limiting cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, has long grappled with these tensions.
