Family Rejects False Claims About ICE Shooting Victim Renee Nicole Good
The family of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother of three who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, has forcefully rejected right-wing rumors claiming she had a criminal history that included child abuse.
“We are grieving. Heavily. And yes, we see everyone’s posts and comments. Some in support but also, the nasty ones ripping apart our beautiful and beloved Renee,” wrote Morgan Fletcher, Good’s former sister-in-law, in an emotional social media post. “And we’ve seen the false claims and the wrong Renee Good’s info being posted (criminal history? She didn’t have one).”
A fabricated screenshot circulated widely on social media platforms, particularly among conservative accounts, alleged Good had been arrested for child abuse. However, records examined by the Daily Beast revealed Good’s only previous interaction with law enforcement was a minor citation for failing to have her vehicle inspected.
The falsified document contains several obvious errors, including incorrectly listing Good’s age as 40 instead of 37. It also claimed she committed offenses in 2022, when she would have been using the surname Macklin from her marriage to Timmy Macklin Jr. She only adopted the surname Good after marrying her wife Becca Good.
Despite the absence of evidence, the Trump administration has characterized Good as a “domestic terrorist” and “professional agitator.” President Donald Trump himself made these claims, though neither he nor Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has provided any supporting evidence for these assertions.
Federal investigators have stated they are examining whether Good had connections to protest networks, but no conclusive findings have been released to the public.
Fletcher shared personal family photos showing Good with her late brother and their son, who is now left without parents. She implored the public to remember that Good was a real person with a family, not merely a political talking point in the ongoing national debate about immigration enforcement.
“No matter where you stand on the issue of ICE or whether or not you think she did or didn’t deserve what happened, please remember she was a human being and she had loved ones, including children who can and will likely see all of these things about their mother, and her wife, whom she loved dearly,” Fletcher wrote.
The shooting has created jurisdictional tensions between federal and state authorities. The FBI has reportedly blocked Minnesota investigators from examining the case, claiming the state lacks jurisdiction. This has added another layer of controversy to an already contentious incident that has drawn national attention.
The ICE agent involved in the shooting has been identified as 43-year-old Jonathan Ross. While Ross himself has not spoken publicly since the incident, his father has defended his actions, describing his son as “a committed, conservative Christian, a tremendous father, a tremendous husband.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of him,” the elder Ross added.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign established to support Good’s family, including her six-year-old son, has raised over $1.5 million, demonstrating significant public interest and sympathy for the family’s loss.
The case continues to highlight deep divisions in American society regarding immigration enforcement policies and accountability for law enforcement actions. As investigations proceed, Good’s family continues to advocate for her memory and push back against what they see as character assassination designed to justify her death.
“Please remember to BE KIND,” Fletcher urged in her post. “And if you claim to be a Christian, especially, please check your heart, attitude, and response to the tragic death. For they will know you by your fruits.”
