According to initial reports by CNN, Iranian officials characterized the ceasefire as a “great victory” for Iran. The network reported that Iranian sources framed the agreement as one Trump had accepted primarily to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz for oil passage. The Strait, a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is crucial for global energy markets, with approximately 20% of the world’s oil passing through it daily.

The former president took to his Truth Social platform to denounce CNN’s reporting in strong terms. “The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows,” Trump wrote. He claimed the statement was linked to what he called a “Fake News site from Nigeria” and accused CNN of immediately amplifying it as legitimate news.

Trump further stated that authorities were investigating whether the publication of the statement constituted a criminal act or was the work of a “sick rogue player.” He demanded CNN “immediately withdraw this Statement with full apologies” for what he characterized as “terrible reporting.”

CNN has stood firm in defense of its journalistic practices. A network spokesperson responded to the criticism by stating: “The statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported on multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us.”

He added that Iran had released an official statement that “simply cannot be squared” with CNN’s reporting.
