In a heated exchange that has captivated political media circles, conservative commentator Candace Owens has forcefully responded to accusations made by Ben Shapiro during his appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. Shapiro claimed that Owens had accused Erika Kirk of being responsible for the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA who recently passed away unexpectedly at an event in Utah.

Owens took to social media platform X to categorically deny these allegations, calling Shapiro a liar who “made up false claims” about her statements. “He said that I accused Erika Kirk of murdering Charlie Kirk. This quite literally is made up out of thin air,” Owens wrote, adding that she was awaiting Shapiro’s response on her own program.

The dispute highlights growing tensions within conservative media following Kirk’s shocking death. Erika Kirk, who has since assumed the role of CEO at Turning Point USA, recently appeared on Fox News with host Jesse Watters, where she made an emotional appeal for compassion from online commentators.

“What people share can affect my children,” Erika Kirk stated during the interview, asking for “grace” from those speculating about her husband’s passing. Her appearance came just days after Charlie Kirk died during an event in Utah, sending shockwaves through conservative circles.

The conflict between Owens and Shapiro represents more than a personal disagreement. Both figures have substantial followings in conservative media, with Owens having previously worked with Turning Point USA, the organization founded by Charlie Kirk that has become influential in young conservative politics.

In several posts on X, Owens escalated her criticism of Shapiro, claiming he “lied through his teeth” in an attempt to turn public opinion against her. She agreed with a supporter who suggested that Shapiro frequently “smears and misrepresents” others, writing: “That is beyond smearing. He tried to pressure Megyn Kelly to make a statement about me by lying through his teeth and EXPLICITLY stating that I accused Erika Kirk of killing her husband.”

Owens described Shapiro as “completely deranged” and accused him of distorting her words for attention. The accusations stem from Shapiro’s comments on The Megyn Kelly Show, where he stated, “What Candace Owens is doing right now is evil.” Shapiro suggested to Kelly that if someone from the political left had made similar insinuations about the death of Charlie Kirk, Kelly would have addressed it directly.

While Owens has shared her thoughts online questioning circumstances surrounding Kirk’s death and suggesting potential cover-ups involving Turning Point USA—even alluding to foreign connections—she maintains that she never directly accused Erika Kirk of involvement in her husband’s death.

This public feud comes at a sensitive time for Turning Point USA, which is navigating a leadership transition following the unexpected loss of its founder. The organization, which focuses on conservative outreach to young Americans, has become a significant force in Republican politics since its founding in 2012.

The dispute between these prominent conservative voices underscores the fractious nature of political commentary in today’s media landscape, where allegations can quickly escalate into public confrontations played out across multiple platforms.

Neither Shapiro nor Kelly has publicly responded to Owens’ latest statements as of publication time.
