BJP Spokesperson Accuses Congress Leader of Making False Allegations Against Assam CM
Tensions between the BJP and Congress escalated as BJP Telangana spokesperson NV Subhash launched a scathing critique of Congress leader Pawan Khera, accusing him of fabricating allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.
The controversy erupted after Khera made claims regarding the Assam CM’s family, alleging they possessed multiple passports and owned property in Dubai. These allegations have been categorically denied by Sarma’s family, who dismissed the documents as “AI-generated fabrications” reportedly circulated by Pakistani social media groups.
Speaking to ANI in Hyderabad, Subhash questioned Khera’s motives, suggesting the allegations were manufactured to distract from the Congress party’s internal challenges and the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
“If you are so clear about the allegations which you have made on the Assam CM and his family members, who have nothing to do with politics or with any business activities, why create a false impression among the people of Assam?” Subhash asked. “You’re just trying to divert attention from your party’s failures.”
The BJP spokesperson also questioned Khera’s decision to travel from Delhi to Hyderabad following legal developments in the case. “Why did you flee from Delhi to Hyderabad?” he challenged.
The Telangana High Court recently granted Khera a one-week interim transit bail in connection with a case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, reportedly a family member of the Assam CM. The court has directed Khera to pursue his case in Assam, where the legal jurisdiction lies.
Chief Minister Sarma has responded forcefully to the allegations, vowing stern action against those spreading what he calls false information. “Before levelling an allegation, he should have asked the Foreign Minister,” Sarma stated, adding that “Assam Police can find and bring people from ‘pataal’ (the netherworld) as well.”
In a notable escalation of rhetoric, Sarma suggested that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi might be involved in the controversy. “I suspect Rahul Gandhi has given him these documents. So this case will extend to Rahul Gandhi. Do not try to scare us. This is Assam, and we have fought against Islamic invasion 17 times,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Sarma also claimed that Khera had “run away” to Hyderabad after authorities conducted searches at his Delhi residence, saying, “The law will take its own course.”
This confrontation comes amidst heightened political activity across India, with several states preparing for elections in the coming months. Political analysts note that such high-profile disputes between national parties often intensify during election seasons, with allegations and counter-allegations becoming more frequent and severe.
The case highlights the increasingly contentious nature of Indian political discourse, where personal allegations against politicians and their families have become commonplace. It also underscores the growing role of social media and digital technology in political controversies, with claims about “AI-generated” materials entering the mainstream political debate.
As the legal process unfolds in Assam, political observers will be watching closely to see whether these allegations result in substantive legal proceedings or remain primarily in the realm of political rhetoric. The outcome could potentially impact political dynamics not only in Assam but across the national political landscape.
