Machine Learning Detects Rising Wave of Fraudulent Cancer Research Papers
Nearly 10% of cancer research papers show signs of being produced by “paper mills” that manufacture and sell fraudulent scientific manuscripts at industrial scale, according to alarming new research published in the BMJ. The study reveals this problem has grown exponentially, with fabricated papers increasing from just 1% in the early 2000s to over 15% of annual cancer research output by the 2020s.

In a separate but equally concerning development, claims that pediatricians receive illegal financial incentives to administer vaccines continue to circulate despite clear evidence to the contrary.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently announced a formal investigation into alleged “unlawful financial incentives” related to childhood vaccine recommendations. Similar claims have been amplified by federal health officials, including HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who stated last summer that doctors were “paid to vaccinate, not to evaluate.”
These assertions directly contradict federal law, which explicitly prohibits pharmaceutical companies from paying healthcare providers to administer vaccines. Following Kennedy’s statements, social media monitoring showed a dramatic spike in online discussions about ketogenic diets and schizophrenia, reaching the highest point of the past year in early February.
Health communication experts warn that when senior health officials overstate or misrepresent preliminary research, they risk confusing patients about established treatments and potentially undermining evidence-based care.
