Dubai Police Issues Warning Against Sharing False Information During Regional Crisis

In the wake of escalating tensions following Israeli and US strikes on Iran, Dubai Police has issued a stern reminder to residents about the legal consequences of spreading false information.

The police authority emphasized that sharing rumors, misinformation, or content that contradicts official announcements could result in serious penalties. Individuals found violating these regulations face imprisonment and fines of no less than Dh200,000, according to a statement posted on the force’s official social media channels.

“Sharing rumours, false information, or any content that contradicts official announcements or that may cause public panic or threaten public safety, order, or health is prohibited,” the statement read.

The warning comes at a critical time as regional tensions continue to mount. Security agencies across the UAE have intensified efforts to prevent the spread of misinformation that could potentially create unnecessary alarm among residents.

Dubai Police also cautioned against photographing sensitive locations, noting that seemingly innocent photos could provide valuable information to those with malicious intent. “It may seem like just a photo… But to some, it’s information. Do not photograph or share security or critical sites. Protecting them is a national responsibility that helps keep our community safe and secure,” the police advised.

This isn’t the first time UAE authorities have addressed information sharing during regional crises. Several government entities have consistently warned against circulating outdated videos and images since February 28, when Iran expanded its retaliatory strikes against American targets in the Gulf region.

Under UAE law, the restrictions are comprehensive and clearly defined. Residents are prohibited from announcing, disseminating, re-disseminating, circulating, or recirculating false news, data, or misleading rumors that contradict official announcements.

Additionally, the law forbids broadcasting provocative advertisements that could incite public opinion, disturb the peace, spread fear, or cause harm to public interest, the national economy, public order, or public health.

The UAE’s strict stance on misinformation reflects broader concerns about information security in an increasingly volatile regional landscape. With social media enabling rapid sharing of unverified content, authorities are working to maintain calm and prevent unnecessary panic.

Cybersecurity experts note that misinformation tends to spike during periods of geopolitical tension. False reports can quickly go viral, potentially leading to real-world consequences such as market disruptions, unnecessary evacuations, or heightened community anxiety.

The UAE’s approach aligns with similar measures implemented across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, where information control is considered vital to national security, particularly during times of regional instability.

For residents, the message from authorities is clear: rely on official sources for information, exercise caution when sharing content online, and prioritize community safety by adhering to established guidelines.

As regional developments continue to unfold, UAE authorities are expected to maintain heightened vigilance against potential information security threats while working to ensure residents remain properly informed through official channels.

Security analysts suggest that this balanced approach – combining strict enforcement with clear communication – has historically helped the UAE maintain stability even during periods of significant regional turmoil.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official news sources and government announcements rather than relying on unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
