Social media posts claiming that rap icon Snoop Dogg rescued 39 dogs from a New York shelter facing imminent closure are entirely fabricated, according to fact-checkers.

The viral story, which circulated across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and YouTube in late October 2025, described how the 48-year-old rapper and entrepreneur allegedly visited a struggling animal shelter just 48 hours before its dogs were scheduled to be euthanized. According to the tale, he paid off the shelter’s debts and adopted an elderly Labrador retriever named Buddy.

“All 39 dogs deserve a tomorrow,” Snoop supposedly declared in the heartwarming—but fictional—account.

The posts typically featured an image showing the rapper crouching beside three dogs. However, digital forensic analysis from multiple AI detection tools, including Sightengine and Hive Moderation, indicated the image was almost certainly computer-generated. Telltale signs included inconsistent lighting, unnatural skin and fur textures, and subtly distorted facial features.

Comprehensive searches across major search engines found no credible news sources reporting such an incident. A celebrity of Snoop Dogg’s stature performing such a significant act of charity would have garnered substantial media coverage from established outlets.

The fabricated story bears all the hallmarks of what internet culture calls “glurge”—overly sentimental, supposedly true stories designed to tug at heartstrings. Dictionary.com defines these as “stories, often sent by email, that are supposed to be true and uplifting, but which are often fabricated and sentimental.”

Analysis of the full article text revealed additional red flags. The writing exhibited telltale characteristics of AI-generated content, including generic emotional language, vague details, and a lack of verifiable sources. ZeroGPT, an artificial intelligence text detector, flagged the content as highly likely to be machine-generated.

The false story appears to be part of a larger pattern of celebrity-centered clickbait designed to generate advertising revenue. The Facebook posts promoting these tales typically direct users to ad-filled websites containing the full fabricated stories.

This isn’t the first time Snoop Dogg has been the subject of false claims. Fact-checkers have previously debunked rumors that he was denied access to a first-class airline seat due to racial discrimination and that he terminated a contract with Country Music Television in support of Jason Aldean.

The incident highlights the growing challenge of distinguishing between authentic news and AI-generated misinformation on social media platforms. As content creation tools become more sophisticated, users are increasingly encouraged to verify information through established news outlets before sharing emotional stories, particularly those featuring celebrities in improbable scenarios.

While Snoop Dogg is known for various business ventures and charitable work, there is no evidence he has recently rescued a New York dog shelter or saved dozens of animals from euthanasia. The viral story represents a classic example of manufactured content designed to spread rapidly through social networks while directing traffic to profit-generating websites.
