False Rumor Circulates About Rep. Crockett Demanding Investigation into Kirk Payment

A fabricated story claiming that U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) demanded a federal investigation into an alleged suspicious payment to Erika Kirk has been debunked as entirely false. The rumor, which gained significant traction on social media in October 2025, alleged that Erika Kirk received a $350,000 wire transfer from a mysterious Delaware shell company shortly before the death of her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The false claim spread rapidly across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), with one post from a page called “Power & Progress” receiving tens of thousands of engagements. The viral post linked to an advertisement-heavy WordPress blog and claimed that “leaked documents” revealed the suspicious transfer to Erika Kirk “just weeks before her husband’s mysterious death.”

According to the fabricated narrative, Rep. Crockett supposedly broke her silence on the matter, stating, “When ordinary people lose loved ones, they get grief. Not secret payments. That’s not sympathy — that’s guilt.” The false story further claimed that Crockett was “demanding a federal investigation, calling out a Delaware shell company that vanished days after wiring the money.”

Investigation into the source of this misinformation revealed that the “Power & Progress” Facebook page is managed by individuals outside the United States. The page’s transparency information shows its administrators are based in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia, suggesting a coordinated effort to spread false information for profit through advertisement-laden websites.

The blog post linked in these shares contained text consistent with AI-generated content, ending with dramatic, forward-looking statements typical of such fabrications. One concluding sentence read: “And as the Capitol lights burn late into the night, one thing is certain — this scandal is only just beginning.”

This wasn’t the only version of the false story circulating online. Similar variants replaced Rep. Crockett with other public figures, including comedian Dave Chappelle, rapper Eminem, and golfer Rory McIlroy, all allegedly calling for the same investigation into Erika Kirk’s finances.

The fabricated story emerged in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death on September 10, 2025. Kirk, who founded the conservative organization Turning Point USA, died in a shooting at a Utah college event. The tragedy has unfortunately become fertile ground for misinformation.

A related false narrative that also gained traction in October 2025 claimed that Rep. Crockett had alleged Kirk’s death was “a cover-up for a massive financial fraud,” accusing Erika Kirk and insiders of “hiding the truth.” This claim was similarly traced back to non-U.S. sources and linked to websites filled with advertisements and AI-generated text.

These fabricated stories represent a growing trend of sensationalized false claims targeting high-profile individuals and tragic events. The monetization structure behind such content—linking to ad-filled websites—reveals a clear profit motive for spreading misinformation.

Media literacy experts recommend verifying information from multiple credible sources, especially when stories make extraordinary claims about public figures. Social media users are advised to check the origin of content and be skeptical of posts that link to unfamiliar websites or contain sensationalized allegations without verifiable sources.

At the time of reporting, neither Rep. Crockett’s office nor Turning Point USA had issued public comments regarding these false rumors.
