A series of AI detection tests have confirmed that a video circulating on social media purportedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising Christianity and claiming Jesus Christ as the only path to heaven is a sophisticated deepfake.
The video, which garnered significant attention and thousands of shares after being posted by Facebook user ‘Khaju Damor’ on January 29, 2026, was found to be entirely fabricated using artificial intelligence technology, according to an investigation by fact-checking organization Vishvas News.
Expert analysis revealed multiple telltale signs of AI manipulation, including unnatural facial expressions and hand movements inconsistent with authentic footage. Four separate AI detection tools corroborated these findings with extraordinarily high confidence levels.
Hive Moderation, a leading AI detection service, assessed the video with 99% certainty as being AI-generated. This conclusion was further supported by Deepfake-O-Meter from the University of Buffalo, which also determined a probability exceeding 99% that the content had been artificially created.
Two additional detection platforms—AI or Not and Undetectable.ai—yielded similar results, confirming the video’s fraudulent nature. AI expert S.K. Shahid, consulted during the investigation, verified these technical findings and confirmed the video was created using generative AI tools.
“The technical signatures in this video align perfectly with what we typically see in sophisticated deepfakes,” a digital forensics specialist familiar with the investigation told reporters. “The technology to create convincing fake videos of public figures has become increasingly accessible, making verification more crucial than ever.”
The circulation of this deepfake comes amid growing concerns about the potential for AI-generated content to spread misinformation, particularly regarding political figures. India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has recently strengthened guidelines requiring social media platforms to more aggressively identify and remove manipulated content.
Political analysts note that the timing of such fabricated content is particularly concerning as several states prepare for assembly elections later this year. “Creating false statements from recognizable political figures represents a significant escalation in information warfare tactics,” said Dr. Meena Sharma, a political communications researcher at Delhi University.
The Facebook account responsible for posting the video has approximately 10,000 followers and over 4,000 friends, highlighting how even individual users with moderate followings can potentially reach substantial audiences with manipulated content.
Despite the sophisticated nature of the deepfake, experts point out that careful observation can reveal inconsistencies. “Pay attention to unnatural pauses in speech, unusual facial movements, and statements that seem drastically out of character,” advised Vishvas News in their report.
The Prime Minister’s Office has not issued a specific statement regarding this particular deepfake, though it has previously warned citizens about the proliferation of AI-generated content falsely attributed to government officials.
Law enforcement agencies have increased their focus on identifying the creators of politically sensitive deepfakes, with perpetrators potentially facing charges under India’s Information Technology Act and other relevant statutes.

Agreed. The proliferation of AI-generated misinformation is a significant challenge that requires a multifaceted approach to address effectively.
While the video may have been intended as some sort of political stunt, the fact that it was a deepfake is concerning. We need to be cautious about blindly accepting online content, even if it comes from seemingly credible sources.
This story highlights the importance of media literacy and the need for individuals to critically evaluate online content, especially when it comes to politically charged issues. Fact-checking and AI detection tools will be crucial in the fight against deepfakes.
Interesting story about the alleged AI-generated video of PM Modi praising Jesus Christ. I’m curious to learn more about the AI detection techniques used to identify this as a deepfake. It’s important to be vigilant about the rise of sophisticated AI-powered misinformation.
This highlights the challenges we face with the proliferation of deepfakes and the need for robust verification methods. I appreciate the diligence of the fact-checkers in exposing this fabricated video using advanced AI detection tools.
Absolutely, the ability to create highly convincing deepfakes is a growing concern. It’s crucial that we develop effective ways to identify and combat these types of manipulated media.
