False Claims Circulate About Erika Kirk’s Alleged Orphanage Plans
A false claim that Erika Kirk plans to open an orphanage in honor of her late husband Charlie Kirk continues to spread across social media platforms despite having no factual basis, according to multiple fact-checking organizations.
The rumor began circulating in late October 2025 when a Facebook page called “America’s Team Vibes” published a post claiming Erika Kirk and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had announced plans for a “$175 million full-scale boarding school for orphans and homeless youth” called the Charlie Kirk Legacy Academy, supposedly to be built in Chicago.
The viral post included a photoshopped image combining genuine photos of Jones and Kirk with an AI-generated image showing them together in front of a “Chicago, USA” sign. Analysis using the Hive Moderation detection tool confirmed with 99.9% certainty that the image was artificially created.
Further investigation revealed that the Facebook page spreading this misinformation is managed from Vietnam, according to the platform’s transparency report. Multiple copycat versions of the claim subsequently appeared on other Facebook pages also managed from Vietnam, including “Weirdly True” and “Next Tech Future.”
Fact-checkers have identified these posts as part of a wider pattern of AI-generated false stories targeting American audiences. This network of Vietnam-based clickbait operations has been the subject of multiple investigations by fact-checking organizations, including Lead Stories, which published a guide called “Prebunk: Beware Of Fake Fan Pages Spreading False Stories About Your Favorite Celebrities — How To Spot ‘Viet Spam’.”
The false claim gained additional traction when TikTok user @vaydaguido shared a video on March 21, 2026, with text alleging not only that Erika Kirk was opening an orphanage in honor of Charlie, but also making the additional unfounded claim that she was “BANNED from Romania for creating an orphanage where the children ‘mysteriously’ went missing.”
Lead Stories had previously debunked this related allegation about Romania in September 2025, finding no evidence that Erika Kirk’s ministry was ever accused of trafficking children or banned from operating in that country.
Google News searches for phrases like “Charlie Kirk Legacy Academy” and “$175 million boarding school for orphans and homeless youth” return no legitimate news coverage of such an announcement, further confirming the fabricated nature of the claim. The only relevant search results are fact-checks from organizations like Snopes and articles reporting on the unverified nature of the viral rumor.
This case highlights the growing challenge of combating sophisticated misinformation campaigns that use AI-generated images and emotionally resonant false narratives to gain traction on social media. These operations often target audiences with content designed to provoke strong emotional responses while offering little verifiable information.
Media literacy experts recommend verifying claims through multiple reliable sources before sharing them, especially when posts contain sensational claims, vague details, or unusual combinations of public figures. They also suggest checking page transparency information on social media platforms to identify potential foreign influence operations designed to spread misinformation.
