In a swift response to a viral hoax, authorities have confirmed that comedian and actor Munawar Faruqui is alive and well, contrary to widespread social media claims of his death.

The false reports began circulating on October 2, when a Facebook user with the handle “69casm” posted a message stating “Munawar Faruqui is no more,” accompanied by a photograph of the performer. The post quickly gained traction across multiple platforms, causing concern among fans and followers.

Fact-checking organization Vishvas News conducted a thorough investigation into these claims and concluded they were entirely fabricated. No credible news sources had reported any incident involving Faruqui, and his social media accounts showed no indication of any problems.

The timing of the death hoax coincides with legitimate news about a serious threat to Faruqui’s life. Delhi Police recently arrested two individuals following an encounter in the Kalindi Kunj area who were allegedly plotting to murder the comedian. According to reports published in Jagran and other outlets, the suspects were identified as Rohit Godara and an associate connected to the Goldy Barar gang.

“Police had received intelligence that these criminals were present in the New Friends Colony area,” a law enforcement source stated. “Both suspects sustained leg injuries during the encounter and were subsequently apprehended.”

This is not the first time Faruqui has been the center of controversy. The comedian rose to prominence through stand-up comedy and later gained further popularity after winning the reality show “Lock Upp” in 2022. He has faced various challenges throughout his career, including previous threats and controversies related to his comedy content.

Smita Shrivastava, a senior journalist with Dainik Jagran who covers the entertainment industry in Mumbai, confirmed to investigators that the death rumors were completely unfounded. “There is absolutely no truth to these claims. Munawar Faruqui is fine,” she stated.

The Facebook account that initially shared the false information has approximately 61,000 followers, giving the hoax a substantial initial audience. From there, the claim spread through shares and reposts across multiple platforms, demonstrating the viral nature of sensationalist misinformation.

Death hoaxes targeting public figures have become increasingly common on social media platforms, where verification mechanisms often fail to prevent the rapid spread of false information. Celebrities from various fields have fallen victim to similar hoaxes, creating unnecessary distress for fans and family members.

Social media platforms continue to struggle with implementing effective measures to combat the spread of misinformation. Despite various fact-checking initiatives and algorithmic adjustments, false claims can reach millions before being identified and labeled as misinformation.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the death threat plot against Faruqui, but no additional details have been released regarding potential motives or whether the arrested individuals were working independently or as part of a larger organized effort.

Fans of Faruqui have expressed relief at the confirmation that the comedian is safe, with many taking to social media to condemn the spread of the false death claims. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information from reliable sources before sharing potentially harmful content online.
