US and Israel Launch Coordinated Strikes on Iran, Khamenei Confirmed Dead

The United States and Israel conducted coordinated military strikes against Iran on Saturday, marking a dramatic escalation in regional tensions. In response, Iran launched a wave of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, with at least one casualty reported.

Israeli emergency services confirmed that a woman was killed and at least 21 others were injured in the Tel Aviv area during the retaliatory strikes, according to AFP reports. The violence has triggered widespread concerns about a potential full-scale war in the Middle East.

In a significant development, Tehran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following the US-Israeli strikes. The killing of Iran’s highest authority represents one of the most consequential events in the region in decades and has sent shockwaves throughout the international community.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the killing, characterizing it as a “declaration of war against Muslims.” In a strongly worded statement, Pezeshkian warned that “Iran considers it its legitimate duty and right to avenge the perpetrators and masterminds of this historic crime,” signaling that further military action may be imminent.

The situation continued to deteriorate on Sunday as air raid sirens sounded across Jerusalem. Residents reported hearing explosions overhead after the Israeli military detected additional missiles launched from Iran toward Israeli territory, indicating that the conflict shows no signs of abating.

US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran, threatening unprecedented military force if Iran continues its retaliatory campaign. “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump wrote in a social media post. “He was unable to avoid our intelligence and highly sophisticated tracking systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do.”

Trump added that the United States would strike Iran “with a force that has never been seen before” if Tehran followed through on its threats of retaliation, underscoring the potential for further escalation.

The conflict has already disrupted regional aviation, with explosions reported in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as Iran pressed on with its retaliatory strikes. The instability threatens to impact global oil markets, with crude prices expected to surge when trading resumes.

Amid the genuine crisis, misinformation has begun to circulate on social media platforms. One viral rumor falsely claimed that Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey had been killed by an Iranian missile in Tel Aviv. The fabricated story originated from an account called “Emerald Fennel Updates,” which claimed to cite Deadline as its source.

The post garnered more than 11 million views across social media platforms, with many users attempting to verify the information. However, fact-checkers quickly determined that the claim was entirely false, with no credible news outlets reporting Spacey’s death. AI systems like Grok also confirmed the story was a hoax, noting that “no credible news outlet (Deadline, major media, etc.) reporting any such incident involving him.”

The spread of such misinformation highlights the challenges of navigating news during international crises, as social media users often share unverified claims that can quickly gain traction during breaking news events.

As tensions continue to rise, international diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway to prevent further escalation, though specific details remain limited. Regional allies and global powers are closely monitoring the situation, with many expressing concern about the potential for a wider regional conflict that could destabilize global energy markets and security.
