Fact Check: No Evidence of Erika Kirk’s $175 Million Chicago Boarding School Project

In recent months, a widely circulated story claimed that Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, had launched a $175 million boarding school for homeless children and orphans in Chicago. The alleged initiative, named “The Kirk Academy of Hope,” was described as fulfilling her late husband’s “lifelong dream” and was reportedly met with national acclaim.

Investigation reveals this story is entirely fabricated. The false narrative began spreading across multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Bluesky, and X (formerly Twitter) as early as October 2025.

“This is a fake story and not true,” confirmed Andrew Kolvet, spokesperson for Turning Point USA (TPUSA), in an email response to fact-checking inquiries.

The fabricated posts typically featured AI-generated images showing Erika Kirk standing in front of buildings labeled “Orphanage” and videos purportedly showing her writing on paper. These visual elements displayed telltale signs of artificial intelligence creation, including unnaturally smooth and shiny skin textures characteristic of AI-generated imagery.

Many social media posts sharing the false story contained nearly identical text, claiming: “BREAKING: Erika Kirk Stuns the Nation With $175 Million Launch of Charlie Kirk’s Dream Project — A First-of-Its-Kind Boarding School for Orphans and Homeless Kids in Chicago.” The posts often included emotional quotes allegedly from Kirk, such as “This isn’t just a school. It’s Charlie’s legacy — a second chance for the kids who never got a first.”

Some versions of the story went further, asserting that millions of people were calling it “the most meaningful tribute in modern American philanthropy” following a “nationally televised announcement” that never occurred.

Digital forensics experts note this fabrication follows a pattern of AI-generated inspirational stories about celebrities and public figures engaged in charitable acts. These false narratives typically lead readers to ad-heavy WordPress blogs, generating revenue for their creators through increased traffic.

One such WordPress site hosting the fabricated Kirk story, identified as “Top News Source,” has previously been linked to content managers based in Vietnam. The writing style in these articles often features dramatic, AI-typical conclusions, such as: “As the nation mourns his death, Americans find comfort in knowing that Charlie Kirk did not spend his final days under pressure—but in peace. Not in division—but in love. Not as an icon—but as a father.”

This false story emerged in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death in September 2025, when the Turning Point USA founder was fatally shot at a speaking event in Utah. The fabrication appears designed to capitalize on public interest in the Kirk family following this tragic event.

The fabricated school story is just one of several false narratives circulating about Erika Kirk in recent months. Fact-checkers have previously debunked claims linking her to alleged child trafficking operations in Romania.

Media literacy experts warn that AI-generated content is becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to distinguish from authentic news, particularly when it leverages emotional narratives or builds upon real events. They advise verifying information through official organizational statements and established news sources before sharing content, especially stories featuring dramatic charitable announcements or initiatives lacking coverage in mainstream media outlets.
