Viral Claim of McConaughey’s Epstein Files Broadcast Debunked as AI-Generated Hoax

A widely circulated social media claim suggesting actor Matthew McConaughey hosted a live broadcast about Jeffrey Epstein case files has been conclusively debunked as false. The fabricated story, which spread across Facebook, Threads, and Truth Social in March 2026, alleged the Oscar-winning actor had “broadcast the truth” from his home about Epstein, President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein who is now deceased.

The viral post, which appeared on performance life coach Carl Paoli’s Facebook page on March 23, featured sensationalist language claiming the supposed broadcast “exploded to 3.2 billion views worldwide” shortly after airing. It included a collage of images showing Epstein, the Trumps, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Giuffre, with a lower image purportedly showing McConaughey broadcasting with headphones while monitors displayed Bondi and a bruised woman resembling Giuffre.

An investigation revealed no credible news sources reported on such a broadcast. McConaughey’s active YouTube channel contained no such content, and representatives for the actor did not confirm any such activity when contacted about the false stories.

The truth behind the misinformation became clear when Paoli confirmed to investigators that his Facebook account had been compromised. “My page got hacked and haven’t been able to get it back,” Paoli stated. The page’s transparency section showed it was being managed by four individuals in Vietnam at the time the false content was published.

Analysis of the post using AI-detection tools indicated a 95% probability the text was artificially generated. While such detection tools aren’t definitive on their own, the language displayed hallmarks of AI writing, particularly in its over-dramatic tone and formulaic structure. The associated blog article linked from the post also exhibited characteristics of AI-generated content, including text displayed as images rather than selectable characters—a common tactic to evade detection.

The images accompanying the false claim showed clear signs of AI manipulation, with facial abnormalities consistent with synthetic media creation tools. Similar AI-generated content began appearing on Paoli’s compromised Facebook page starting around March 18, a stark departure from his previous posts about his podcast.

This type of fabricated content follows a familiar pattern that cybersecurity experts have been tracking. Bad actors create sensational, false stories with emotional appeal to drive traffic to advertisement-laden external websites, generating revenue through clicks. The strategy capitalizes on users’ willingness to believe and share content that appears to expose hidden truths or presents uplifting narratives.

This isn’t the first time McConaughey has been the subject of AI-generated hoaxes. In 2023, fact-checkers debunked another fabricated story claiming the actor had made controversial remarks about Hollywood in relation to the film “Sound of Freedom.”

The proliferation of such convincing yet entirely fictional content highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age. Media literacy experts recommend verifying stories through established news sources before sharing content, particularly when claims seem extraordinary or are accompanied by unusual visual elements.

As AI-generated content becomes increasingly sophisticated, the distinction between authentic and fabricated media continues to blur, underscoring the importance of critical evaluation of online information, especially when it involves public figures and sensational claims.
