DOJ Documents Reference Disturbing Allegations Against Jeffrey Epstein

Federal documents released by the Department of Justice in January 2026 related to Jeffrey Epstein contain disturbing allegations of “ritualistic sacrifice” and references to cannibalism, Snopes has confirmed after reviewing the files. These allegations, while documented in the official record, remain unsubstantiated by credible evidence.

The claims surfaced among the 3 million files released by the DOJ and quickly spread across social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky, prompting numerous inquiries from concerned readers.

At the center of these allegations is a purported 2019 FBI interview with an anonymous man who claimed to witness horrific acts aboard Epstein’s yacht in 2000. According to the DOJ documents, the man alleged he observed “ritualistic sacrifice” and “babies being dismembered” during this encounter.

The interview appears in multiple files within the DOJ’s document collection. One file, labeled “EFTA00147661,” contains an email exchange between an apparent FBI agent and a New York police detective summarizing the allegations. A second file, “EFTA01246048,” presents a more formal summary of the same interview.

According to these documents, the anonymous accuser claimed he was a victim of “a type of ritualistic sacrifice in which his feet were cut with a scimitar but left no scarring.” The man further alleged witnessing infants being dismembered and other deeply disturbing acts involving human waste. He also claimed several former U.S. presidents were present during these events.

Notably, both files indicate the man failed to provide any supporting evidence for his accusations. In one document, an agent concluded, “At this time it is not recommended that any additional investigative resources be expended concerning [REDACTED] claim.” When asked by reporters why no further investigation was pursued, an FBI spokesperson declined to comment.

The DOJ files reveal the man was referred to the FBI by a former special agent and Michael Moore, whom media outlets have identified as the person behind True Pundit, a far-right conspiracy website known for promoting unverified claims.

While the term “cannibalism” does not appear in the anonymous man’s allegations, the word does appear elsewhere in the DOJ’s “Epstein Library.” A search revealed 52 instances of “cannibal” and six mentions of “cannibalism” throughout the documents. These references appear in various contexts, including media digests, academic materials, transcripts of conversations, and an email from Epstein about “a restaurant called Cannibal.”

None of these cannibalism references directly connect to the allegations made in the man’s FBI interview or accuse Epstein or his associates of such behavior.

The release of these documents marks another chapter in the ongoing examination of Epstein’s crimes and the conspiracies surrounding him. Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, has remained the subject of intense public scrutiny and speculation.

This is not the first controversial claim to emerge from the DOJ’s document release. Snopes has previously reported on other unverified allegations in the files, including a tip to the FBI claiming that former President Donald Trump allegedly witnessed the murder of a newborn.

Law enforcement and judicial experts caution that unsubstantiated claims in investigation files should be viewed critically, as they represent allegations that have not met evidentiary standards required for formal charges or prosecution. The presence of such claims in official documents does not validate their accuracy or veracity.

The DOJ continues to process and release Epstein-related documents as part of its commitment to transparency regarding the investigation of the disgraced financier and his network of associates.
