Denver Communists Display Controversial Sign About Charlie Kirk at “No Kings” Protest

A photograph showing a provocative sign reading “Charlie Kirk had it coming, change my mind” at a Denver Communists stall during an October 2025 protest has been confirmed as authentic, stirring nationwide controversy amid heightened political tensions.

The image, which spread rapidly across social media platforms following the October 18 “No Kings” demonstration against the Trump administration in Denver, was posted by the Denver Communists themselves on their official Facebook and Instagram accounts the day after the event.

The sign references the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a Utah university campus. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, had become an influential figure in conservative politics and a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump.

In their social media post acknowledging the sign, the Denver Communists wrote that their “new signs mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the Trump regime’s demonization of dissent, and the right-wing talking point about paid protestors got overwhelming support” from protest attendees.

When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for the Denver Communists defended the messaging, stating: “Our sign says nothing about killing anyone, including Charlie Kirk. ‘He had it coming’ is a saying that everyone should be familiar with, like ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ or ‘f*** around and find out.'”

The “change my mind” portion of the sign references a debate format Kirk frequently employed during public appearances and social media posts. The phrase became widely recognized after conservative commentator Steven Crowder popularized it in a 2018 meme where he set up a table at college campuses challenging students to change his mind about controversial topics. Ironically, Crowder’s October 1, 2025, video was titled “The Left is violent, change my mind.”

Getty Images photos from Kirk’s fatal appearance show his team had erected a gazebo with the similar slogan “Prove me wrong” at the university where he was killed.

The Denver protest was part of broader nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations against the Trump administration following the former president’s return to office. The events attracted various left-leaning organizations, though the Denver Communists’ messaging stood out for its inflammatory nature.

Additional photographs from the Denver event showed individuals wearing shirts with equally provocative messages such as “Politicians don’t die like they used to” accompanied by an image of Pennsylvania treasurer Budd Dwyer’s televised 1987 suicide, and “Make assassinations great again” featuring a depiction of the July 2024 assassination attempt against Trump. However, it remains unclear whether these individuals were officially affiliated with the Denver Communists organization.

The incident highlights the increasingly volatile political climate in the United States, where political violence has moved from rhetorical threat to devastating reality. Kirk’s assassination shocked the nation and further polarized an already divided political landscape, with conservatives viewing him as a martyr while some on the far left have expressed sentiments ranging from indifference to celebration.

Law enforcement agencies across the country have expressed growing concern about political extremism and the potential for violence as the nation continues to grapple with deep ideological divisions that have intensified following Trump’s controversial return to power.

The Denver Communists, a relatively small but vocal political organization, have faced widespread criticism for the display, including from many mainstream progressive groups who condemned the messaging as harmful to productive political discourse.
