Russian FM Spokesperson Accuses Western Nations of Leading in Fake News Production

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused Western nations of being the world’s primary source of disinformation, describing fake news as a “pandemic” in today’s global information ecosystem.

Speaking at the “Dialogue about Fakes 3.0” International Forum in Moscow on Wednesday, Zakharova delivered a pointed critique of Western information practices, characterizing Western countries not only as producers of false information but as architects of sophisticated disinformation systems.

“The main producers of fake news, the inventors of systems for spreading disinformation, are undoubtedly the Western world,” Zakharova told attendees. She further alleged that Western powers are “the masterminds behind information warfare” in the global arena.
