Iran Claims Trump Being ‘Dragged’ Toward War by ‘Disinformation’

In a tense diplomatic standoff, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused unnamed parties of feeding “disinformation” to U.S. President Donald Trump as he contemplates military action against Iran following the regime’s deadly suppression of anti-government protests.

Speaking to CNN’s Frederik Pleitgen on Sunday, Araghchi claimed that certain entities with vested interests in conflict are deliberately pushing for U.S. military intervention against Iran. “I’m not concerned about war. What I’m concerned [about] is miscalculations and military operations based on misinformation and disinformation campaigns,” Araghchi stated. Despite projecting confidence, the foreign minister added a cautionary note: “I think President Trump is wise enough to make a correct decision.”

The comments come as President Trump has reportedly been evaluating military options against Iran for several weeks. According to sources, thousands of protesters were killed by Iranian security forces during recent demonstrations, prompting international outrage and calls for action.

Administration officials reportedly presented Trump with a fresh set of military options last week. These proposals are said to include strikes designed to further damage Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities or operations aimed at weakening Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s power structure.

In a significant show of force, the U.S. military has deployed substantial naval assets to the Middle East region. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group arrived Monday after being diverted from its scheduled Indo-Pacific deployment. This naval buildup signals Washington’s readiness to act if diplomatic efforts fail.

Despite the escalating tensions, Trump has not entirely closed the door on diplomatic solutions. The administration has indicated willingness to resume nuclear negotiations that broke down last summer. For its part, Iran has shown tentative openness to talks, while maintaining its longstanding denial of ever pursuing or possessing nuclear weapons.

Addressing potential negotiations, Araghchi suggested that a deal including “no nuclear weapons” would be “very good” and could be achieved “even in a short period of time.” However, he emphasized that Iran would demand the lifting of economic sanctions that have severely impacted its economy in recent years.

As Washington deliberates its next move, Iranian officials have issued increasingly serious warnings about potential consequences of military action. The regime initially threatened to target U.S. military bases throughout the region in response to any attack. On Sunday, Supreme Leader Khamenei escalated the rhetoric by warning of a “regional war” should the United States launch military operations against Iran.

When asked about this threat, Araghchi framed it as a practical reality rather than mere posturing. “Since U.S. bases are spread across the region, then inevitably, many parts of the region would be involved, engaged, and that could be very dangerous,” he explained, suggesting that any conflict would naturally expand beyond Iran’s borders due to America’s military footprint in neighboring countries.

President Trump responded to Khamenei’s warning with characteristic directness, stating that if a nuclear deal cannot be reached, “then we’ll find out whether or not he was right” – a statement that leaves open the possibility of military action while maintaining pressure for a diplomatic solution.

The current tensions represent the latest chapter in decades of complicated relations between Washington and Tehran, with regional allies like Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the Gulf states closely monitoring developments.
