Ukrainian Military Officials Refute Viral Video Showing Alleged Mistreatment of Mobilized Personnel

Ukrainian military recruitment officials have strongly denied claims circulating online about poor detention conditions at a mobilization center in Pryluky, calling the viral video a deliberate disinformation campaign designed to undermine the country’s defense efforts.

The Chernihiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support issued an official statement dismissing the controversial footage that had sparked public concern about how conscripts were being treated. According to officials, the video has “no relation to Pryluky Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support” and displays clear signs of being part of a coordinated attempt to discredit Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

“The material itself is fake and shows signs of a deliberately planned information-psychological operation aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and disrupting mobilization measures,” the recruitment center stated in its Facebook post. Officials urged citizens to verify information before sharing it and to avoid participating in the spread of what they described as hostile propaganda.

The controversy emerged after Member of Parliament Oleksiy Honcharenko shared the video on social media, expressing alarm about the apparent conditions at the Pryluky facility. “These are the conditions under which people are kept at the TCC in Pryluky,” Honcharenko wrote, connecting the situation to another recent investigation into conditions at a separate recruitment center in Bila Tserkva.

“Yesterday, at the Temporary Investigative Commission they examined a case about the conditions in the Bila Tserkva RTC – they told us that it’s just renovations there. In Pryluky too, renovations? How is this possible?” the MP questioned.

Following the initial post, Honcharenko announced that he had referred the matter to Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament’s Human Rights Ombudsman, requesting an investigation into the holding conditions for mobilized individuals in Pryluky.

The incident occurs against the backdrop of Ukraine’s ongoing nationwide mobilization efforts, which have intensified as the war with Russia approaches its third year. The Ukrainian military has faced challenges in meeting recruitment targets while maintaining public support for the conscription process.

Military analysts note that disinformation campaigns targeting Ukraine’s mobilization efforts have become increasingly sophisticated since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Russian propaganda networks have frequently attempted to exploit public concerns about military service and treatment of personnel to undermine domestic support for Ukraine’s defense strategy.

The recruitment system in Ukraine has undergone significant reforms in recent months, with authorities working to address legitimate concerns about transparency and conditions at mobilization centers. In December 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a revised mobilization law intended to streamline the process and address previous shortcomings.

Dmytro Lubinets, responding to the earlier concerns about the Bila Tserkva facility, confirmed that he had already demanded that the Ground Forces Command and the Kyiv regional military administration ensure appropriate conditions for mobilized personnel at that location.

The Chernihiv recruitment officials’ strong denial reflects the military’s sensitivity to allegations that could damage public trust in the mobilization system at a critical time in the conflict. However, some observers note that without independent verification, questions may remain about conditions at various recruitment facilities across the country.

Military experts emphasize that maintaining ethical standards and proper treatment of mobilized personnel remains essential not only for humanitarian reasons but also for maintaining public support for Ukraine’s defense efforts as the conflict continues with no immediate end in sight.
