Entertainment Heavy-Hitters Return: McCartney Documentary, Blackpink and Bruno Mars Lead New Releases
Music icons past and present are making headlines this week as several major projects arrive on streaming platforms. Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles career gets the documentary treatment while K-pop sensation Blackpink reunites and Bruno Mars drops his first solo album in eight years.
“Paul McCartney: Man on the Run,” directed by acclaimed documentarian Morgan Neville (known for “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”), arrives on Amazon Prime Video this Friday. The documentary offers an intimate look at McCartney’s musical journey through the 1970s, focusing on his Wings era and solo work following the Beatles’ breakup. The film coincides with news that a rare collection of McCartney and Wings memorabilia will be heading to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this summer.
Meanwhile, global pop star Bruno Mars returns with “The Romantic,” his fourth solo album and first since the Grammy-winning “24K Magic” in 2016. His new single “I Just Might” signals a continuation of Mars’ trademark retro-influenced sound, blending disco, pop and soul elements. Though Mars has remained in the spotlight with his Anderson .Paak collaboration Silk Sonic, fans have eagerly awaited this solo return.
In another highly anticipated musical comeback, K-pop powerhouse Blackpink is set to release “Deadline,” a new five-track EP featuring the energetic dance track “Jump.” All four members – Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa – have achieved remarkable individual success between group projects, with Lisa scoring global hits, and Jennie landing a role in HBO’s acclaimed series “The White Lotus.”
On the small screen, Sterling K. Brown returns for the second season of “Paradise” on Hulu. Brown plays Xavier, a Secret Service agent who managed to enter an underground bunker with his children during an apocalypse, while his wife was left behind. Season two follows his quest to find her, with Shailene Woodley joining returning cast members James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson.
The television landscape also welcomes the milestone 50th season of “Survivor” on CBS and Paramount+. The anniversary edition brings back former contestants, including “The White Lotus” creator Mike White, for what promises to be an extended celebration – the premiere alone runs three hours.
Film enthusiasts can look forward to Andrew Stanton’s “In the Blink of an Eye” arriving on Hulu this Friday. Stanton, best known for directing Pixar classics like “WALL-E” and “Finding Nemo,” presents an ambitious narrative that weaves together interconnected stories spanning world history. Despite a lukewarm reception at last month’s Sundance Film Festival, the film boasts an impressive cast including Kate McKinnon, Rashida Jones, and Daveed Diggs.
For gaming fans, Capcom’s legendary horror franchise continues with “Resident Evil Requiem,” marking the series’ 30th anniversary. The ninth main installment introduces FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as she navigates a zombie-infested world with limited resources, while series veteran Leon Kennedy returns with his combat expertise. The game aims to balance pure survival horror with action elements when it releases Friday across PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch 2, and PC platforms.
The entertainment calendar also features the newly rebranded Actors Awards (formerly the SAG Awards), streaming live on Netflix on March 1. As one of the most reliable Oscar predictors, industry watchers will pay close attention to the ceremony, where Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” leads the nominations.
Additionally, Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman have teamed up as executive producers for “The Gray House,” a new Civil War drama series for Prime Video starring Mary Louise Parker, Ben Vereen, and “Peaky Blinders” actor Paul Anderson. All eight episodes will be available for streaming this Thursday.
With such a diverse array of high-profile releases spanning multiple entertainment mediums, audiences have plenty of options to enjoy across streaming platforms in the coming days.
